At the right is the obituary which ran in the Union-Bulletin on Thursday, Dec. 16.

Below is the email notice sent to Whitman College faculty and staff on Dec. 13.

To the Whitman community,

We are writing to let you know that Suzanne Martin passed away on Saturday,
December 11 at St. Mary Medical Center. She served Whitman College in a
number of roles from 1978 through 2000, including teaching courses in
classical history, as Associate Dean of Students and as Director of the
Museum of Man and Nature in the Northwest. She played a key role in the
development of the Study Abroad program at the College, and was influential
in the creation of the present pre-major advising system. She was also
active in the Walla Walla Chapter of the American Archaeological Society.
Suzanne was born in Chicago and grew up in Southern California. She earned a
B.A. in Political Science from Chatham College and an M.A. and Ph.D. in
History from the University of Minnesota, where she focused on the study of
ancient history and Mycenaean Greek pottery. She will be remembered as an
effective administrator, as well as for her love of life and her ability to
bring together people who might not otherwise have met.

She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, where a memorial service
will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, January 17th.
