An introduction to evolutionary ecological inquiry and with birds as our study organisms.
Labs - Most lab time will be spent in the field. I want to students to become comfortable observing and identifying birds and using avian field ecology techniques. We will capture, mark, and measure birds, monitor nests, and implement different survey techniques.
Concepts - The central theme of this course is evolutionary ecology - how ecological factors influence evolution, and how evolution shapes ecological interactions. Evolutionary ecology is not an isolated discipline, however. We will apply concepts and techniques from all the major sub-fields of ecology including population, community, macro, landscape, and even ecosystem ecology.
