Angel E. Garcia received his bachelor and masters degrees in physics from the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras and his Ph. D. from Cornell University.

Dr. Garcia's research is on the theoretical and computational study of biological molecules ... their structure, motion and stability. In 1989 he began work at Los Alamos National Laboratory in the Theoretical Biology and Biophysics Group and served as Group Leader of the Group from 2001-2005. He is now the Senior Constellation Professor for Biocomputation and Bioinformatics of the Department of Physics, Applied Physics and Astronomy at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Among other recognitions, Angel E. Garcia has received the APS Edward A Bouchet Award in 2006 and is a Fellow of the APS.
