Gabriela Gonzalez was born in Cordoba, Argentina and received her masters degree in physics from the University of Cordoba before getting her Ph.D. at Syracuse University in 1995.

Her work is on the study of gravity waves. Dr. Gonzalez joined the LIGO group at MIT in 1995 and began work at Penn State University in 1997. She and her husband (Jorge Pullin) moved to Louisiana State University in 2001. Her primary work is on making the detectors of the LIGO project as sensitive as possible and also on better understanding the characteristics of the rippling of space-time (gravity waves) caused by massive gravitational disruptions.

Dr. Gonzalez is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics and became a Fellow of the APS in 2007. Earlier that year she was awarded the APS Edward A. Bouchet Award.
