PHIL 400: VALUES

READING the assignments thoroughly and thoughtfully before each class discussion. Each class discussion will presuppose all the reading assigned to date, so keep up with schedule.

WRITING A midterm paper of about 5 pp. is due Mar. 7 in class; a final paper of about 10 pp. is due on or before May 16 at 9AM in my office (Olin 153).

DISCUSSION STARTERS: Each student is take several turns in preparing some preliminary commentary on the day's assignment to start the discussion for that day.

CITIZENSHIP in our group. Complete attendance, on time, is expected, as is active participation in each discussion.

The final grade will be based 50% on formal writing and 50% on quality of reading, discussion and general citizenship. (From time to time I may call for some in-class writing; this would count under the latter category of general citizenship.)  To break it down further: 17% for the midterm paper and 33% for the final paper; 25% for prepared commentary and 25% for general participation or citizenship.
